Microscopy & Microanalysis 2000, a joint meeting of the Microscopy Society of America (MSA), the Microbeam Analysis Society (MAS), and the Microscopical Society of Canada/Societe de Microscopie du Canada (MSC/SMC), will be held at the Philadelphia Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA, Sunday, August 13, through Thursday, August 17, 2000. On Saturday and Sunday (August 12-August 13) before the meeting there will be a special two day congress on "SPM of Soft Materials". On Sunday there will also be a series of short courses, described later in this booklet, and an evening social at the convention center. The scientific program runs from Monday morning until Thursday afternoon; the commercial exhibits will be open from Monday noon through Thursday 3 pm. The local committee has put together an exciting array of social events to complement your scientific endeavors. The scientific program will feature symposia and general sessions highlighting the latest developments in all areas of microscopy and microanalysis. Advances in instrumentation and techniques as well as their applications to physical and biological sciences will be covered in the meeting. Approximately 600 scientific presentations are anticipated with a total attendance of around 2500. The meeting format will consist of both poster and platform presentations, as well as tutorials, short courses, vendor demonstrations, a public policy presentation, and special interactive "Problem Solving with the Experts" sessions . Special events are listed elsewhere and a complete list of symposia and topics anticipated for general sessions begin on another page.. Booths and exhibits on activities of the sponsoring Societies, such as the MSA Technologists' Forum, Certification Board, Education Committee (including videotape and book displays) and Placement Office (an employer/employee information exchange service), will be open throughout the week. We think you will find this year's meeting in the "City of Brotherly Love" an exciting one. Electronic Author Data Form http://www.msa.microscopy.com/MSAMeetings/MM00/00Forms.html.
