SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM ORGANIZATION:
Over the years symposia generally have been categorized as either biological, physical or general/joint. To reflect the more comprehensive nature of the program, especially subsequent to EMSA becoming MSA and MAS agreeing to meet jointly with MSA every year, the general/joint category has been eliminated and replaced by the analytical and imaging categories. The ANALYTICAL SCIENCES category is for symposia which cover instrumentation, techniques, and methods used in microscopy and microanalysis; and the IMAGING SCIENCES category encompasses symposia that include instrumentation, techniques, and methods used to improve or manipulate images. There are symposia in each category of interest to the biologists and to the physical scientists.
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
Contributions to these symposia, as either platform or poster submissions, are encouraged. In addition to the symposia listed above, you can contribute to other topical sessions that will be listed in the Registration Bulletin and Call for Papers which will be available before the end of November. In addition to the daily poster sessions new in 1996, there will be a special poster session which will highlight activities of all microscopy resources that choose to participate. There also will be the usual short courses, educational tutorials, and computer workshop. 1997 marks the 15th anniversay for the Technologists' Forum; therefore, their symposium on "Techniques Revisited" and round table discussion "State of Technology - Past, Present and Future" will be specially formulated to highlight that event. The third annual symposium on "Integrated Microscopy" for l997 may be held in Cleveland just prior to Microscopy & Microanalysis '97. That symposium would include speakers on Saturday and be associated with a MSA short course on Multiphoton Microscopy on Sunday.
We have designed an exciting scientific program for next summer's meeting in Cleveland and certainly hope to see each one of you there. Plan now to submit your abstract by March 15, 1997, so that you will be able to participate in this important meeting of the Microscopy Society of America, the Microbeam Analysis Society and the Histochemical Society.
