President's Blog - January 2017

January 01 2017 by Ian M. Anderson
This year we mark 75 years as a Society, established in 1942 as the Electron Microscopy Society of America (EMSA), and since our 50th anniversary the Microscopy Society of America (MSA). An embellished logo marking our 75th anniversary, which many of you will have already seen in the promotional materials for Microscopy & Microanalysis (M&M) 2017, now appears on all Society communications portals. During the coming year, I intend to write a monthly letter to the membership to apprise you of initiatives that the Society leadership has undertaken to mark this anniversary year, and to highlight the activities of MSA’s communities to further its mission.

January 2015 President's Blog

January 30 2015 by John Mansfield
Hello from the new President of MSA - the first of January sees the new President take the reins of the society and all I can say is, you certainly hit the ground running! Last weekend, the MSA Council held its annual Winter Meeting out in Reston Virginia. This location makes it easy for the executive council members to meet with the MSA Association Management company Drohan Management Group , since they are located in Reston. November is the month for elections in your community, and also with MSA. Election of our Society officers began on Nov. 7. As a member, you should have received an email announcement containing a link to your ballot. Please exercise your voting right and select the next group of scientists to lead MSA. The ballots contain biographies and personal statements from each candidate. If you have not received a link to the ballot, you may vote by visiting the MSA main page and going to the right column. Click on “vote now”, enter your member password and cast your ballot. Elections run until December 15, 2014 but don’t wait until the last minute - vote today!

October 2014 President's Blog

October 23 2014 by Jeanette Killius
October is a beautiful month – leaves change color, pumpkins decorate doorsteps, the air is crisp - and Local Affiliate Societies begin their fall meetings. Thirty-four Local Affiliate Societies (LAS) are listed on the MSA website, many of which feature upcoming programs on their own websites. Local societies provide quality presentations to area researchers who may not be able to attend the national meeting.
