The Microscopy Society of America is delighted to announce the recipients of the 2010 MSA Awards.

The Distinguished Physical Scientist Award will be presented to Dr. Michael Isaacson from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the Distinguished Biological Scientist Award will be presented to Dr. George Pappas from the University of Illinois-Chicago. Both of these individuals are long-time members and supporters of MSA. The Distinguished Scientist Awards recognize pre-eminent senior microscopists from both the Biological and Physical disciplines who have a long-standing record of achievement during their careers in the fields of microscopy or microanalysis. As a result of their award, both of these recipients will also become Honorary Members of MSA, and they will be recognized as 2010 MSA Fellows.

The Burton Medal, initiated to honor distinguished contributions to the fields of microscopy and/or microanalysis of a scientist less than 40 years of age, will be awarded to Sergei V Kalinin of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN.

The Hildegard H. Crowley Outstanding Technologist Award (Biological Sciences) will be presented to E. Ann Ellis from Texas A&M University. Ann is another long-time member of the Society and she has been an active MSA volunteer for many years. This award, first presented in 1993, honors technologists from both the Biological and Physical Sciences who have made significant contributions such as the development of new techniques which have contributed to the advancement of microscopy and microanalysis.

The recipient of the Morton D. Maser Distinguished Service Award, Pamela F. Lloyd of UES, Inc., is another long-time member and volunteer of the Society. This Award was initiated to recognize outstanding volunteer service as exemplified by Mort Maser, who served the Society for many years and exhibited outstanding dedication to the furtherance of MSA's mission.

"We are very happy to recognize and honor these individuals for their outstanding contributions to the field of microscopy", said Peter Crozier, Chair of the Awards Committee.

All of the individuals listed above will be presented with their Awards during the Monday morning Plenary Session of the M&M 2010 Meeting to be held August 1-5, in Portland, Oregon. Please join us in congratulating our outstanding award winners!
