RESEARCH AND IMAGE AWARDS ANNOUNCED
RESTON, VA
MSA is pleased to announce the winners of three significant awards, one of which has been newly-expanded for the 2011 Annual Meeting.
The Diatome Award, sponsored by Diatome, Inc., is presented to the posters illustrating the best use of diamondknife ultramicrotomy in either biological or physical sciences. The winners of this year's Diatome Awards are:
1st Prize: Poster #214, Hilda Amalia Pasolli, HHMI at Rockefeller University
Hair Follicle Stem Cells Dynamics and Commitment Tissues
2nd Priz: Poster #112, Craig Queenan, Bergen County Technical School
Microscopy in the Classroom: How to Use It and How to Teach It
3rd Prize: Poster #12, Susan Goldstein, Dept. Geology U. of Georgia
Toward Understanding the Biodiversity of Gromzids
The MSA Micrograph Competition is held annually at Microscopy and Microanalysis, with the purpose of promoting the innovative blending of art and science. The competition is open to all forms of microscopic imaging. Winners include:
1st Prize: Mountains of Gadolinium, Chris Santeufemio, University of Massachusetts at Lowell
2nd Prize: At the Bottom of the Sea, Sergio Ballesteros and Nina Romero, CIATEQ, A.Q., Queretaro MEXICO

Finally, the M&M Poster Competition was expanded this year to offer daily opportunities for recognition of the M&M's excellent poster presentations, offered by students from around the world. Here are the winners:
