The Senior Research Associate position will support imaging in the Orlando, FL (Lake Nona) facility in the Imaging Core. The Core is responsible for providing routine and advanced imaging capability to investigators. The core currently provides training and scientific advice pertinent to the usage of a Nikon A1R VAAS confocal platform, a Nikon inverted epifluorescent calcium-imaging and TIRF live-cell platform; an Olympus inverted epifluorescent platform, an Aperio Fluorescent Scanscope and an FEI Morgagni electron microscope. The individual will be responsible for routine aspects of the imaging core, maintenance, training of scientific staff, and troubleshooting, especially on transmission electron microscopy, confocal and epifluorescent live and fixed cell microscopy.
Qualifications:
The Senior Research Associate must have demonstrated ability to cooperate and work with others as demanded by the needs of a major research institute. S/he must be able to communicate effectively, demonstrate an interest in professional development, possess ability to define and resolve problems and be able to work independently.
Qualified candidates must have experience working in an imaging core operating a Transmission Electron Microscope, confocal microscope, and be familiar with imaging software (Volocity, NIS Elements, and Image-Pro). It is essential to have high proficiency in processing samples for use in TEM. Individual must have the ability to maintain complete and accurate records, data reports, and be responsible for billing services performed by the imaging core. Individual must operate and maintain complete documentation on all imaging core equipment, keep an adequate inventory of supplies, reagents and solutions, and dispose following proper regulations of any biohazard and potentially hazardous materials used in the core.
Master's degree in a related discipline and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience required.

Manages the Confocal Core, and oversees its daily operation. Works very independently, with little guidance from the Director, and coordinates all Core-associated research activities including but not limited to: supervising the activities of scientists using the facility, participating in the design and modification of research protocols, and follows up on novel or anomalous results, composes and presents research reports and manuscripts. - The Campus Microscopy and Imaging Facility at the Ohio State University has an immediate opening for a person to supervise confocal microscopes; in addition experience with live cell/animal microscopy and multiphoton microscopy will be useful.
The Campus Microscopy and Imaging Facility (CMIF) is the biomedical confocal and electron microscopy core facility serving over 70 faculty labs per year at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. The CMIF is located in the new 10 story Biomedical Research Tower in the Medical Center Campus. The Microscopy Specialist reports to the Lab Manager and the faculty Director. Main tasks are: responsibility for multiphoton and 2D array single photon confocal microscopes. In addition, the successful applicant will perform sample preparation with cryostat for fixed samples and including immunocytochemistry; assists other staff in operation of scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope; works closely with individual scientists on their research projects to develop research plans; provides technical expertise on research methods. This position requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with great microscopy skills.
Instruments in the CMIF are: FEI Tecnai G2 BioTWIN TEM with cryo, FEI Nova 400 Nano SEM, Olympus FV1000 spectral system, Olympus FV1000 filter system, VisiTech Infinity3 2D array confocal microscope, CRI Nuance Multispectral imaging camera, Olympus FV 1000 MPE with Spectral Physics DeepSee TiSaphire laser. Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent education/experience in biological sciences. Demonstrated ability to interact with a wide variety of faculty, researchers, students, and visitors. Considerable experience in biological/health science research lab required; experience with single photon microscopy is required, and experience with multiphoton microscopy is preferred; skills in sample preparation preferred; knowledge of image analysis methods and experience with live cell image microscope desirable.

- The Center for Ecogenomics in the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University has an immediate opening for a scientist with extensive expertise in biological confocal scanning light microscopy. We conduct life-sciences based research into cellular physiology and disease on both mammalian cells and microbes. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team environment serving as the point person for research involving two state of the art imaging systems (and several additional transmitted and fluorescence microscopes): 1) A Nikon multi-mode confocal microscope system consisting of a LiveScan SFC (swept field confocal), Spectral C1si (high-spectral resolution) confocal, and Perfect Focus TE2000E2 inverted microscope with TIRF accessories; and 2) A novel cell CT scanner for direct 3D absorption and fluorescence imaging of single cells.
At the core of the skill set we seek is the high level of expertise in fluorescent probe selection and labeling technologies and protocolsand associated probe excitation and emission considerationsnecessary to provide optimal signal to noise ratios and to achieve novel and ambitious scientific objectives. This is a hands-on position requiring daily involvement in specimen preparation and image data acquisition in addition to a thorough understanding of the experimental goals and design. The successful candidate will assume full responsibility for managing and optimizing the Center's imaging facility, providing training and expert input to users and active involvement in planning, design and execution of complex research studies. Responsibilities will include maintaining and using the FEI Tecnai12 Twin transmission and Quanta 200 scanning electron microscopes and ancillary equipment; assisting investigators with sample preparation (TEM, ultra-thin sectioning of resin and frozen-sucrose-embedded samples, immuno-gold labeling, preparation and imagining DNA spreads, preparation and imagining of SEM samples); developing of protocols; problem solving; introducing Cryo-EM, electron tomography, and high pressure freezing/freeze substitution methods into the services offered by the lab, and other duties as might be assigned. Experience with software for tomographic reconstruction and for 3D reconstruction of EM serial sections is highly desirable. Further duties will include training of core lab users and students (individually or in small classes), billing (use of the lab is based on a charge-back system), budgeting, purchasing for the lab, and maintaining lab records and archives.

The Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope has an opening for an Assistant Research Professor in the Electron Microscope (EM) Core Facility to provide EM services to the City of Hope research community.
