Needle-shaped martensite

Hexagonal-close-packed-martensite needles in an as-cast dual-phase FeCoCrMn high entropy alloy. This microstructure helps to overcome the strength-ductility tradeoff, with the HCP-martensite phase providing strength and the FCC phase providing ductility. Polished section imaged in reflection with polarized light.
